Into the Wild

1. My initial impression of the book is that it is woonnderfullll! It is quite emotional, but I'm glad that someone (Jon Krakauer) took their time to write a whole book about this kid. My attention span and Krakauer's wrting style really get along well. Throuhout the majority of this seven chapter section the events have provoked my interest. Then there was the part about Ron, which almost made me cry.

2. unfettered. Because the outside world does affect him, he just doesn't let it change his mind. He is not restrained by outside forces.

3. Everyone experiences life differently. Most people need to conform to live life happily, well that is what they think anyway, who knows what the actual truth is. Then there are those like Chris McCandless, who realize that life is so much richer when one can be their own individual and have independence.

4. Calvin and Hobbes. I remember Calvin always wandered away, just him and Hobbes, having their own adventures apart from society. Most may have been imaginary, but I sense that Calvin ad Chris were having the same feelings, just on a different scale.

5. I am similar to Chris/Alex in that I want to be free! I am so sick of daily routine and knowing where I'll be for the next several months. After highschool I would love to skip through the airport and leap on a plain to Ireland. I also think society is really dumb. I am not as extreme as Chris/Alex but I feel where he's coming from. Also, like him, for many years I lived under the control of something other than myself and somewhere along the way I had just had enough and yeah, but hopefully I won't starve to death in the middle of nowhere.

6. I don't know how to specifically connect this to the world. People run away all the time, a lot of people in the world are lonely like Ron, many people move around and never stay in one place. I think this book reveals a lot of common sad stories in the world that most people don't think about.
